The initiative is based on a shared Nordic ambition to strengthen cooperation and make better use of standards in areas that are important for society and industry.

Standards provide common frameworks that support innovation, regulatory alignment and implementation of new solutions. By working more closely across borders, the Nordic countries aim to make it easier to develop and scale solutions across the region.

The project runs from 2025 to 2028.

What the project focuses on

The project focuses on areas that are central to the green and digital transition:

  • Circular economy
  • Digitalization, including artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and quantum technologies
  • Sustainable use of resources, including the minerals sector
  • Recruitment and competence-building, including engagement of young professionals

What we aim to achieve

The project aims to:

  • strengthen Nordic cooperation on standardization
  • increase the use of standards in business and the public sector
  • support the integration of standardization in regulatory development and research, development and innovation
  • make standards more accessible and relevant for users
  • contribute to stronger Nordic value chains and improved conditions for competitiveness

Nordic standardization organizations

The project brings together the national standardization organizations in the Nordic countries:  Standards Norway (SN) Danish Standards (DS) Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS) Finnish Standards Association (SFS) Icelandic Standards (IST)

These organizations are responsible for developing and managing standards at national level and represent their countries in European and international standardization.
