Mandate

The committee shall contribute to promoting Norwegian expertise and interests in the development of international and European standards in quantum technologies and big data processing. This shall be done by ensuring sound, long-term solutions that can help lay the foundation for further research.

The committee shall follow the work in the following technical committees:

CEN/CLC/JTC 22 Quantum technologies
This committee is tasked with developing standardization deliverables in the field of quantum technologies. This includes quantum enabling technologies, quantum sub-systems, quantum platforms and systems, quantum composite systems, and applications.

IEC/ISO/JTC 3 Quantum technologies
This committee focuses on standardization in the field of quantum technologies, including quantum information technologies (quantum computing and quantum simulation), quantum metrology, quantum sources, quantum detectors, quantum communication, and foundational quantum technologies.

The Norwegian committee shall support Norwegian participants in international committees and working groups. It shall also provide recommendations to Standards Norway on how to vote on matters presented to these committees, ensuring that proposed standards are consistent with Norwegian laws and regulations.

Given the rapidly growing field in Norway, the committee shall actively work to attract expertise in emerging sub-areas.

Through close dialogue with the Norwegian market, the committee shall identify gaps and opportunities for standardization in this area and promote them within European and/or international standardization frameworks.

The committee shall assess and propose new standards and supplementary products based on national needs within the field.

It shall also propose and, if necessary, develop Norwegian supplementary documents to adopted standards, and assess the need for translation of standards into Norwegian, including contributing to Norwegian terminology.

The committee shall help ensure that the standards are disseminated and adopted by proposing courses, seminars, informational material, etc.

Nordic Cooperation:

Svenska Institutet för Standardisering (SIS), Dansk Standard (DS), and Standards Norway (SN) have established a Nordic collaboration (Finland and Iceland are also invited). The intention is to bring Nordic experts closer together to generate synergies across the region. It is also desired that this collaboration will provide a strong Nordic voice in the European and global quantum technology communities. Standards Norway wishes the committee to participate in this forum and, if possible, cooperate to safeguard Norwegian interests.
