The following mandate is common to all NORSOK expert groups:

The expert groups' primary task is to look after the petroleum industry's needs for the development of standards and standardization within their field. The expert groups must coordinate activities within their area, both international and national (NORSOK) activities. They are responsible for ensuring that the overall strategy approved by the Sector Board is taken into account when implementing the adopted work programme. The expert groups is also an important professional meeting place, where expertise and experiences are shared.
