S Safety (HSE)

NORSOK S standards cover the needs of the Norwegian petroleum industry for development of cost effective standards and standardization within the field of health, safety and environment, including working environment, risk assessment and emergency response, to bridge the gap where the international standards are unsatisfactorily.

The S standards are developed by experts from the Norwegian petroleum industry and are based on expertise and shared experiences within the broader field of safety.

Certain NORSOK standards are freely available for trade unions and safety representatives

The NORSOK standards that are related to health, safety, and environment (HSE) and referenced in the petroleum regulations can be accessed by trade unions and safety representatives for free.

NORSOK and Norsk Standard include several requirements that regulate the safety and the working environment on the Norwegian continental shelf. It is important that safety representatives and union representatives have easy access to these standards.

Therefore, there is a scheme that provides safety representatives and union representatives who are members of "SAFE", "LO sentralt", "El- og IT-forbundet", "Fellesforbundet", or "Forbundet industri og energi" free access to the relevant NORSOK standards if they do not have access through their employer's subscription.

Contact your union

We encourage union representatives or safety representatives who do not have access to the NORSOK standards through their company's subscription to contact SAFE or one of the other unions. The union will then ensure that access is granted.
