NORSOK M-630 is revised and on public enquiry
NORSOK M-630 Material data sheets and element data sheets for piping, has been revised to ensure that the standard is up-to-date and relevant to the industry. Standard Norway invites the industry to provide input to the draft until 10 September.
NORSOK M-630 includes a collection of material datasheets and element datasheets. Providing a set of common supplementary requirements for the most frequently used materials in upstream oil and gas piping systems designed according to ASME B31.3.
Key changes
These are the key changes made during the revision:
- Inclusion of a statement regarding acceptability of stock materials manufactured to previous revision of this standard has been added.
- Requirements for personnel qualification of NDT operators have been updated with regards to third party certification.
- Text regarding reference to NORSOK M-650/NS-EN ISO 17782 qualification in material certification is harmonized throughout the document.
- Text regarding qualification of welders and welding procedures has been updated for all product forms that involve welding.
- Tube MDSs are updated to include seamless or welded conditions.
- API 5L grade B is included in MDS C31.
- Restriction on aluminum has been included in MDS C36 and C46.
- Text regarding extent and frequency of NDT on castings has been updated.
- Requirement for hardness testing in MDS C37 updated.
- Grade WLP6W is added to MDS C43.
- Sulfur restriction is removed from MDS D43.
- Requirements for test sampling for microstructural examination and corrosion test for D- and DH-series are updated.
- Impact test requirements for test sampling and acceptance criteria updated for D- and DH-series.
- Requirement for reporting of holding time on product forms heat treated with continuous and semi-continuous furnaces updated in D- and R-series.
- Requirements for approval of welders and welding procedure qualifications and corrosion test temperature for weld repair updated for MDS D46 and D56.
- Strain hardened condition and mechanical properties have been included for all grades in MDS D57 and D59.
- Text regarding manufacturing of parts from bar and test sampling of bar in general is updated.
- Requirement for essential variables for welded fittings is updated in D-series.
- Grade 1 is included in MDS N10.
- New MDS (N38) for alloy UNS N01276 tube is included.
- MDS (S10) for stainless steel type 316 bolting is included.
- Text regarding weld repair of welded pipe is updated and harmonized across the standard.
- Grade 1 is specified for MDS N14.
- Requirements regarding Mo and Cr addition in weld consumable is removed for MDS N16.
- MDS N20 is updated to not allow hot forging.
- Requirement for packaging of polymers in P-series is updated.
- UNS N08926 is removed from the R1X-series.
- Tensile testing of tube is included in relevant MDSs.
- Requirement for NORSOK M-650/NS-EN ISO 17782 qualification of R2X-series is removed.
- MDS X20 is updated to include grade 7L, 7ML and 43L and to include grade 43 nut. Requirement for tread rolling after heat treatment is also removed.
- Grade X70 is included in MDS CH61S.
- Requirements for NDT of seamless and welded pipes are updated in DH-series.
- Deviations to ASME B31.3 chapter IX is included in section.
- EDS NHF1 is updated with regards to procedure qualification testing.
- Material selection is removed from EDS NSR1.
- ISO 10474 is included in as allowed certification standard.
- Material datasheets for additive manufacturing included in last revision is now removed and replaced by EDS NAM1.
- Requirements regarding testing according to NORSOK M-710 is now included in P-series where relevant.
- Temperature range for NBR is updated in P-series.
- Strain hardened bar is included in MDS S17.
- Manufacturing of parts from bar is included in MDS N17.
- Requirement for penetrant testing is removed from MDS N20.
- New MDS R47 and R57 for highly alloyed austenitic stainless steel included.
- New MDS X30 for bolting in grade B16 is included.
- Chemical composition has been modified for MDS CH64S.
- User experiences input from NS-EN ISO 13703-2 are taken into account.
