This event will bring together key stakeholders, including representatives from the European Commission, Norwegian authorities, and over 100 industry experts from across Europe and the Nordic countries. We are also pleased to announce that the Norwegian Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance, Ms. Karianne Tung, will be the opening speaker.

The seminar will follow the meetings of the European standardisation committee on AI, which is dedicated to developing harmonized AI standards to support the implementation of the AI Act.

A representative from the European Commission will provide insights on the AI Act's background, lessons learned from the implementation of GDPR, and the rationale behind the Commission’s request for the development of harmonized standards.

The Minister, along with Nordic AI experts, will share their perspectives on how these harmonized AI standards can enhance the competitiveness of Nordic businesses. We will also explore how Nordic countries and Europe can collaborate on the effective implementation of harmonized standards, ensuring a coordinated approach that supports both regulatory compliance and innovation.

We are entering an exciting era where AI will play a pivotal role in shaping Europe’s future. As the host of the European standardization committee on AI (JTC 21), Standard Norway is central to developing and implementing harmonized standards that will ensure the responsible and safe use of AI technology, in alignment with the AI Act.

We look forward to an inspiring day, focusing on how the new AI standards can contribute to a safe, responsible, and innovative future for technology development in both Europe and the Nordic countries.

As the AI Act moves toward full implementation, JTC 21's role becomes increasingly significant. The committee is developing harmonized standards that will be critical for the AI Act’s enforcement. Companies that adhere to these standards will benefit from a legal presumption of conformity with the AI Act's requirements.

The standardization committee is working on European standards in support of the AI Act, including:

  • AI Trustworthiness Framework
  • AI Risk Management
  • AI Quality Management System
  • AI Conformity Assessment
  • AI Governance
  • AI Cybersecurity

These efforts are focused on ensuring that AI technologies are developed and implemented responsibly, safely, and in alignment with European values and regulations.
