Accessibility statement

To ensure that our digital services are accessible to as many people as possible, we are working on the universal design of our websites.

We continuously strive to improve our digital services. We do this because the standardization process should be open and inclusive, and because we are the ones who manage standards on universal design.

Accessibility statements

The accessibility statement provides a status update on the universal design of our digital services, based on criteria level AA in the standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1.

Issues and planned improvements

This is a list of the most critical issues on our websites:

Standard.no and our online store online.standard.no

  • Non-descriptive link text:

Several links, such as "Sign up" in our list of available course, do not provide enough information on where they lead. Until we update these links to be more descriptive, we recommend reading the surrounding text for context.
  • Dynamic status updates:

Messages that appear after actions, such as adding an item to the shopping cart, are not automatically read aloud by screen readers. We plan to fix this using appropriate ARIA attributes.
  • Error messages in various forms:

Error messages are not always linked to specific input fields, and screen readers do not always read them aloud automatically. Until we resolve this, all error messages can be found at the bottom of the form.
  • Reliance on color alone:

In the registration form, errors are indicated only with the color red, without any additional text. This can be challenging for colorblind users. We plan to add text descriptions for all errors.
  • Missing language codes:

The registration form is incorrectly set to English, which may cause confusion for screen readers. We are working to correct this.

  • Keyboard navigation:

Several buttons lack a visible focus indicator when navigating with the keyboard. We are implementing clearer focus indicators.

    Expandable buttons:

Information buttons that expand content do not indicate whether the content is visible or hidden.
  • Content zooming:

When content is enlarged to 400%, some elements overlap or become hidden. We are working on improving responsiveness.

    Placeholder text:

Some fields have low contrast placeholder text, making them difficult to read. We plan to improve contrast and add visible labels.
  • Error messages in forms:

Error messages are not always linked to specific input fields, and screen readers do not always read them aloud automatically. We are working on fixing this, but in the meantime, users can navigate to error messages manually.
  • Language settings for screen readers:

Some text on the website is in English, which can be confusing for screen reader users as it is read with Norwegian pronunciation.

  • Search results:

When navigating through search suggestions with a screen reader, only the title is read aloud, not the accompanying content. We are working to make all search suggestions accessible to screen readers.
  • Mouseover content:

Information appearing while mouseover is not accessible for screen reader or keyboard users. We are working to make this information available to all users.
  • Navigation menu zooming:

When the site is enlarged to 400%, the navigation menu becomes inaccessible without horizontal scrolling. We are adjusting the menu to improve responsiveness.
  • Color contrast in search results:

The text displaying the number of search results has low contrast, making it difficult to read for users who are visually impaired. We are increasing the contrast for better readability.
  • Dynamic status messages:

After a search, users with screen readers are not informed about the number of results. We are adding status messages that will be read automatically by screen readers.
