NORSOK H-001 replaces parts of NORSOK H-003

The NORSOK standard on Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) was previously an integrated part of NORSOK H-003:2010 but is now becoming a separate standard. We invite the industry to review the proposal for the new standard before November 7.

NORSOK H-003:2010 is now split into two new standards: H-001 on heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and H-002 on sanitary systems.

NORSOK H-002 on sanitary systems was launched as a separate standard in 2022, and NORSOK H-001 will now replace the remaining parts of NORSOK H-003:2010.

The main changes from H-003 are that specific requirements from operators are now incorporated into H-001, descriptions of external meteorological conditions and indoor environmental conditions are improved, description of smoke ventilation is improved and more detailed, information about system redundancy is added and area specific design guidelines and datasheets are added.

Scope of NORSOK H-001:2024:

This document is applicable to offshore installation for production of oil and gas including onshore facilities as described in Havtil technical and operational regulations. This document can also be used for mobile offshore units where applicable.

This document identifies the basic requirements of offshore for design, fabrication, testing and installation of

  • heat, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • secondary heating medium systems
  • cooling and chilled water systems
